An Ongoing Beginning: On one of Fiji’s oldest settlements

Walking through Viseisei Village, often spoken of as one of the earliest settlements in Fiji, I found no clear boundary between what was inherited and what was lived — only rooms held together by routine, verandas resting in shade, laundry moving with the sea breeze, and people occupying space without urgency. Homes opened into paths, paths into the shoreline, and time seemed less linear than layered.
